Basic Information
This handsome boy was a former wild mustang from the Devil’s Garden wild horse territory in Northeastern California. Merlin is a 5 year old (2018) mustang gelding. He is 14.3 hands. Merlin was gathered from the range in October 2021, and has been in training since March 2022.

Merlin currently:
Halters/leads/lunges
Picks up feet
Fly spray/bathes
Loads into a trailer
Good in electric fencing (but still requires 5’ fencing per requirements of the US Forest Service)

What is Merlin’s personality like?
Merlin is a good natured fellow. He’s a cheerful excited face in the mornings, and is very vocal about his excitement for breakfast. He is extremely food motivated and positive reinforcement works well for him. He is lower in the herd status and is currently with two other geldings.
Are you a good fit for Merlin?
Merlin needs a patient and knowledgable handler, preferable with knowledge of positive reinforcement. He is a great horse, but I could see him doing poorly in the wrong home. He is gentled on the ground but not under saddle. He has worked with 7+ handlers, but still does best with his “person”. His adopter would need to have experience starting horses under saddle or have the financial ability to send him to a trainer to be started.
